Crable may see life again on the Patriots' practice squad. Pierre Woods add depth to the special teams and outside linebacker corps. I hope that Crable can put it all together and contribute. Apparently, he must clear waivers first.

Patriots cut Crable - Extra Points - Boston.com
Only saw him for the first time against the Steelers. He looked tentative and certainly not aggressive. Perhaps he needs more time on the practice squad or BB has given up on him. He is certainly tall and rangy. He did not seem to hustle much.
I think that LB Guyton has demonstrated more aggressiveness than Crable.

Nice win over the Steelers
Defense bounced back and played very well. Likewise for TE Grontwoski. McCourty continues to impress with his play.
Crable seems to be getting in some playing time. Can see why BB did not give up on him. He is tall and has long arms. Guyton seems have found a nice niche for himself and is effective rushing the passer with his speed.
Nice to see a good, steady pass rush on Big Ben in the 1st half.
Brady led some great drives. Now, let's get ready for the Colts.

Any predictions for Sunday's game (Patriots vs. Chargers)?
I think our young defense is improving and will be put to the test against Philip Rivers. TE Antonio Gates may not play which would help the Patriots defense.
I have not seen the Chargers play this season. Have been able to see the Patriots only once (vs. Miami).

Nice come from behind victory
CBS did not cover the game in Richmond, VA. From what I could gather from the boxscore, Branch and Woodhead, who weren't even on the roster at beginning of the season, had major contributions.
Looks like the defense recorded 3 sacks. Did Crable play any?

Kaczur placed on IR; Branch trade official - Extra Points - Boston.com
I suspect that Logan Mankins will be back at mid-season or least will attempt to do so. I would tell the guy "no thanks" and keep him from being a disruptive force in the locker room.
Nice to have Branch back
He should be a good addition to the receiving corps. A 4th round pick seems like a reasonable price in exchange.

Danny Woodhead
He is my new Patriot hero along with Welker and Brady. He is tough as nails, nice low runner, good receiver, and plays special teams well -- great pickup, BB!

Moss trade to Vikings close - The Boston Globe
Patriots would actually trade Moss? Wow, this would be huge and take away their major downfield weapon. What/who would they receive in return?

Patriots v. Bills
Defense is pretty weak. Can't stop opposing teams.
Offense is good but lacks an explosive running back. Nice efforts from Woodhead and "law firm" (Ellis-Green).
The good news is that the defense can only get better.

Jets v. Patriots
The Globe guys (Ryan in particular) pick the Jets to top the Patriots this Sunday. Coming off a tough loss against the Ravens and playing at home against a fierce rival will certainly cause the Jets to be pumped up. Jets offense sputtered last week. Patriots offense showed lots of firepower last week. Jets defense is tough though the lost a key lineman for the season The Patriot defense is still unproven. Should be an interesting game.
Patriots and Patriots have been fired up over the Jets' trash talking and even fired salvos back.
Wonder if BB has something up his sleeve?

Remorseful Moss
Told the Boston Herald that he would like to retire as a Patriot. Would like to see him along side with Brady for a few more years. We'll see. I know that BB has always respected him as a player.
Maroney
He never lived up to expectations. Mike Shanahan wanted to draft him. Last year, I recall the fans actually booing him after he danced around behind the line instead of hitting the open hole. Plus, he had a costly fumble against the Colts. Both Maroney and Chad Jackson (the 2nd round pick behind Maroney) never panned out.
BB finally gave up on him.
Hope Taylor, Morris, and Faulk can stay healthy. BenJarvus ("law firm") may have a larger role in the rotation.
I would like to see them get another RB for insurance purposes.
I like the post about Crable moving up from the practice squad provided he's ready.

Week 2 showdown takes on new look - Extra Points - Boston.com
Should be a heck of a game on Sunday. I suspect that BB may use Moss as a decoy to get his young TE's, Tate, and Welker open. Revis usually covers Moss really well.
They will need to have a balanced attack and use screens and draws to keep the pass rush honest.

Good start....
Could not pick up the game on TV down in Richmond, Va. However, keeping up with the game via the Globe NFL feeds revealed that the Patriots offense was pretty efficient. Defense was good in the first half. Running game was adequate despite not having Maroney.
From what I could tell, red zone offense is better than last year. Return game, thanks to Brandon Tate, vastly improved. And, what about Wes Welker? 2 TD catches and the guy was not supposed to be ready until mid-season. Nice INT by Gary Guyton for a TD. Good contributions from rookie tight ends.
Defense gave up large yardage in the 3rd period as Palmer got into a groove. But, a sustained drive in the 4th period chewed up 1/2 of the clock and took way the Bengals' momentum.
Nice to see the Colts get beat despite Manning's over 400 yards in the air.

McKenze to the practice squad...
I was happy to see this. This guy has good character. Transferred collleges in order to be close to home/family to help out while he was in college. I am really pulling for this young man. Seems that Belicheck wants to given and Crable a true shot at making the team.

Boston.com: Tracy White looking to be special teams contributor
Tracy White looking to be special teams contributor
Monique Walker, Globe Staff, Globe Staff / Sep 6, 2010
FOXBOROUGH -- When Patriots linebacker Tracy White thinks of his goals, being a supreme special teams contributor tops his list. It appears to be what the Patriots are looking for. The Patriots cut Sam Aiken, Eric Alexander and Pierre Woods, who all were contributors on special teams. The Patriots picked...

Waived OLB Shawn Crable lands on practice squad
More practice squad additions listed in this article.
ILB McKenzie Cut
He was a 3rd round pick in 2009 and got hurt during last year's mini-camp. Some had high expectations for this player. Yesterday, the Patriots cut OL Ohrnberger, a 4th round pick this year. Though these guys were not 1st and 2nd round picks, I am beginnng to wonder about BB's drafting. Many teams find great players in these rounds. Is the Patriot system too complex for young players? Do the Patriots have good scouting? I am beginning to have concerns about this. Any thoughts?
Patriot Cuts from Yesterday
Some surprises from yesterday's pecifcally Derek Burgess who has been a bust since acquired from Oakland. Also gone are Pierre Woods and Eric Alexander, two outside LBs who have contributed mainly on special teams. Sam Aikens, last year's special team captain, was cut, too.
The Globe reported that the Broncos releasesd DE Jarvis Green. With the loss of Ty Warren, Patriots may consider bringing Green back.
These moves yesterday really cut into the team's outside linebacker corps. Plus, this fuels continuing concern over the Patriots' anemic pass rush. Sure hope that BB has some good defensive schemes up his sleep to relieve pressure on his young defensive secondary.
One player I liked from last year is OLB Rob Ninkovich. He is a good pass rusher. He may get more playing time this year.
Patriots traded for a safety to replace Brandon McGowan. With all the players cut from other teams, perhaps BB will take a look to see if any can help his team, primarily at OLB and in the defensive secondary.

Defense or lack thereof
Why do I have this feeling that our D is extremely porous? Last night, they gave up over 400 yards to the Giants.
I have read some good things about WR/S Buddy Farnham who was on the return team last night. He might be a keeper, especially if Edelman can't go for Game 1.
The offense will score points. However, the defense has to make the stops or it will be a long season.
From what I have seen thus far, BB has not improved his defense over last year.

Tonight's game in NY
Brady only played about a quarter. I like Hoyer as his backup. Interesting development, WR Buddy Farnham was inserted into the game as a Safety. Though BB has caused me some frustration in recent years with his draft picks, I like how he uses players in multiple roles. Vrable used to come in at TE. Seau would play FB at times as have some of the other linemen. He is certainly creative with his roster. Edelman played QB in college. I am wondering if BB has thought about inserting an option play involving Edelman?
This Season
The defense looks very vulnerable, more so than last year. The defense is young but inexperienced. The loss of both Bodden and Warren takes away veteran experience and presence. The defense needs some leaders to step up.
Off-field issues with contracts of Mankins and Brady coupled with Spikes' issue may serve as further distractions.
I am very disappointed as to how Belicheck has not sought to bring in pass rushers. This weak pass rush will really put the pressure on the secondary. It is as if Belicheck has thumbed his nose at the need for a pass rush. I do not understand.

Patriot injuries...
I do not know about other teams, but the Patriots sure seem overly secretive about injuries. I believe that there would be a lot less speculation if the fans and press knew more as to what is going on with injuries.
Mystery injuries: WR Edelman, LB Cunningham. What's up with their absence? Rumors about that one or both are headed for IR before the season starts. The Globe discussion boards are pure rumor mills. I have stopped visiting them.

Yikes! That is all we need is bad press like this. The fact that he is/was dating Doc Rivers' daughter does not help in the Boston scene.
